Oh Child by Merry C. Battles ©1994, 2007 Merry C. Battles Oh, child, scared child. Child of the past, child still within. Small, helpless, a sponge, Soaking up everything. Taking whatever is said as truth. You're a good boy, you're a bad girl. We wanted a son. You were supposed to be a girl. Where have we gone wrong, To deserve a brat like you. Obey me, I am King. I command you, I am Queen. Listen and obey and do as I say, Or your Father will get you, Or your Mother will hit you, Or you'll never amount to anything, Unless you obey. Or ignore me, or I'll ignore you, Or I'll hit you, or spank you, Or beat you, or molest you. Love and Hate. Rolled into one. Helpless, innocent, like a little computer. Taking everything in. Taking everything as truth. Mommy told me this, so it must be true. I'm bad, I'm stupid, I'm good for nothing. I will never amount to anything. Small little child. How can we change things? To see you as you were. To bring you to us now. To love you, caress you, Tell you how much we love you. Stroke you, defend you, adore you. Each child the potential of the greatest life. If led with love, knowledge, truth, wisdom, Strength, gratitude, health. All that is possible. As Mommy and Daddy tell you and show you. YOU ARE LOVED. ©1994, 2007, Merry C. Battles |
